7. ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS Food Retailers and Manufacturers may not send raw meat to landfill. It must go to an approved plant for high temperature treatment eg: rendering or incineration prior to landfill or composting. Unfortunately any packaged material can only go for incineration, as it cannot be accepted at rendering plants. Eventually this ban will extend to cooked meat products as well however this part of the legislation has been delayed until the end of 2005.
